Instruction to Inspectors

Bearing in mind that perfect sheep are not available, Inspectors when examining sheep for transfer should be guided by the official description of a Romney sheep as set out in the lastest Flock Book.

Only sheep of sound constitution and carrying a reasonably even fleece of "Romney" wool should be passed.

Deformities such as faulty jaws, twisted joints and crooked legs must condemn a sheep, and weak bone and weak feet should not be passed.

Inspectors should throw out all sheep with a weak back covering or showing coloured fibres in the fleece. As regards spots other than in the fleece proper the decision is left to the discretion of the Inspector after assessing the general merits of the animal.

While making the due allowance for the age or for drought conditions a reasonably high standard should be maintained.

Before processing with the work of inspection, Inspector are requested to make themselves familiar with By-Laws 6 and 7.

Sheep for Export

Inspectors when dealing with sheep for export, should be particularly careful in their inspection; nothing doubtful should be considered, and should be sure to pass nothing that is not up to a high standard, showing strong constitution and typical of the breed.
